Star Date: blah, blah, and blah

Madison Madhouse is currently on hiatus. I don’t know whether we will start it up at a later date. Sad because we had a great time doing them and I’m sure they were enjoyable to all of you out there. For the time being I am going to be blogging a lot more and once I get a intrawebs connection on my confuser I will upload the last few MMH episodes. I will be busy the rest of this summer into fall and possibly longer. I am heading out onto the road with with friends band doing a little bit of everything. They are called Black Veil Brides check them out. The lead guitarist Jake was involved in the Minneapolis music scene years ago and that is how I know them. Other than that I will be doing a youtube blog from the road and hopefully we will post them up on here. If it doesn’t work out check it out on youtube (obviously) under juicetimethegreat yeah I know awesome name. I’m really excited to get going and working again. Plus on the road and not in a shitty cubicle is a major plus.

This blog is dedicated to a friend of mine (I wonâ€™t say his name out of respect for him) who has a controlling partner. I hope he gets help. His fiancÃ© reads his emails, has his phone number transferred to hers now apparently, and got upset because my sister and I called him on his birthday, and told us he didn’t want anything to do with us. The friend we knew would never have been mad because of a birthday call. Weâ€™ve had a nice, respectful friendship with him for years, and often called each other on holidays or birthdays to wish each other well. It was casual and respectful. So this is disturbing. Especially since he is engaged to her. Ummâ€¦yeah, good luck with that. I can understand the communication with some friends tapering off over the course of a relationship, but to be prevented completely by a third party is ridiculous. Especially, if the friendship is healthy, harmless/non-threatening.
So, this is dedicated to you, friend, that I am truly concerned about:

Weâ€™ve all been through rough times in our lives. We might have lost a job, a relationship, our sense of well-being for whatever reason. Or, we may be going through drastic changes, such as just graduating from college, getting out of the army, getting married, etc. During these times of transition (whether good or bad) we may start to feel a little unsettled. It is human nature. But some of us have experienced or will experience having a wolf in sheepâ€™s clothing come into our lives just at this moment. And some of us might welcome them with open arms because our self-esteem or sense of self is shakier.

Please pass this message on if you know someone who might be in this position.

This “music should be free” movement is really stupid. It’s really just a justification for people to not feel bad about stealing from musicians.

Sure you can have my music for free if: you find free professional equipment including the accessories needed, free rehearsal space that includes all the utilities, an engineer who is paid, or is also ‘doing it only because (s)he loves it’, a free place to record it (meaning a real studio with sound dampening rooms that are separated and wired up correctly, free recording equipment, free tape (I want real tape), free distribution and physical cd’s if needed and finally free coffee for the engineer (100% needed, and they drink A LOT of coffee).

If you meet those small, meager demands, you sir, may have a free copy of the music that we took hours and hours of our lives to write, practice and record because we love to do it.

Oh, and the T-Shirt you want for free too because you’ll “wear it and therefore give us promo”, EAT IT! If you want a free shirt, go MAKE ONE! If you love our band and want to promote us get a friggin’ sharpie and an old pit-stained shirt and write our name on it with “IS AWESOME” underneath mmmmkay? Here’s a hint, WE PAY FOR THOSE TOO! The $1.50 profit we make on each shirt will help to pay for some gas to get to the gig so we can play!

Not to mention, (excluding good benefits) we will NOT play for free for the exposure only to be asked to give away t-shirts, music and every other product we can produce.

Hey, free promo items are stickers and buttons. End of story.

Due to a flood in Vikings memorabilia being put up for auction, eBay has closed it’s doors. After Sunday’s loss to the New Orleans Saints, Vikings fans realize that they actually PAID FOR jerseys, flags, mugs, cups, hats, jackets and the list goes on. Local Vikings fan Tom Belfar said, “I’m just really glad I kept my Packers stuff. I mean, with Favre possibly retiring this year, I might need to switch teams again next fall. The Pack is looking good.”

Favre Jerseys are the most abundantly available after whispers of retirement started up. The perennial retiree mentioned to one of the janitors of the Superdome Sunday night that, “I’m going to call Mort and retire…..but not officially, probably…..I’m going to see how I feel in July. Wear do I put these towels?” Mr. Favre left the locker room and left his pants on the ground.

In a related story, Prince’s Vikings fight song has been banned from all airwaves everywhere. Even home use could result in a $450 fine. The FCC has determined that not only is the song detrimental to the health of all living creatures, but in solely responsible for the loss to the New Orleans Saints Sunday night. The Vikings players could not stop thinking about how horrible and stomach-retching it was. Prince plans to re-release Purple Rain under the new title Purple Pain on February 7th.

So on Halloween we were walking back from State Street after watching Third Eye Blind play infront of the state Capitol and this girl had this bumble bee outfit on. I was freezing in this huge and thick Winnie the Pooh outfit the temperature got down into the low 20s to high teens. I had asked her if she was stupid and her reply was yeah but it looks sexy. I wasnt going to deny her that fact but I mean really!?! Why does a woman need to have the “look” over her comfort? I had this conversation this past week with a few ladies I know. My response was “thats fucking stupid” to all of it. Here is a picture you decide.

Hey there just wanted to promote my independent film production company-Inkubator Production Company. I am going to make a facebook page for that soon-will let people know when that is done. So far I have produced two short films-my first one is called Necessary Lubrication -it is a silent film with music by some local groups like In The Morning and some international musicians. It was a learning experience and met some great local talent! My second one, which I just finished this last Spring is called A Fraud. It is a little wackier and lighter than the first. I don’t want to tote myself as a great filmmaker but I am proud to have completed the films and learn something from the experiences! One is, I am mostly comfortable writing and directing, and not really wrangling people.

But I do know a lot of great technical talent-from lighting to sound to editing people-if anyone needs a music video done, or movie or any kind of video done-I am your contact person!

I hope to work on some more and my next project will likely include my poetry somehow. So please stay tuned!

Well I am going to give you all a little bit of a Sianetradio.com status update. There are a lot of things happening. We know we have been going through some problems with out streaming feed. Believe me right now that is priority #1 so stop messaging me on it. Thanks! When the stream is back up and going we are going to start broadcasting our individual podcast on there in case you missed anything we deem awesome. There will also be two very special parts of a podcast called Juicetime’s All-Time Favorite Local Tunes or JATFLT for some of you. I had a hard time picking the list, but it was fun all in the same. Look out for that some time in the next few weeks.
The big news on my end as if that previous stuff wasn’t big enough is officially announcing the Madison Madhouse. This is Clubhouse like show but it is set in stone to launch in early January 2010 when The Clubhouse Show goes on a small break. Obviously based out of Madison, WI it will have a cast of characters that put those lame asses up to the Nordwest to shame. With the crazy people that I know in this town and that are willing to participate it should be very very entertaining. Besides who wouldn’t want to listen to a bunch of drunks in the state that can out drink any other? I am looking forward to this project coming together and for all of you out there in cyber land to enjoy. It should be fun and hopefully we can skip a lot of the hiccups.

Tastes Like: This IPA is like most IPAs a pure burn down the throat but if you have had one IPA you have nearly had them all. The only exception is that there is a small citrus element to this one just like most Great Lakes beers.

Welcome to Wino Reviews. I decided to start doing this after I talked to Juicetime, and found out he was reviewing beer and I thought I might join in on the alcohol assessments.

Since I am no longer going out to as many clubs as I did when I was in college, I don’t have the need to indulge in hard liquor as much, although I still love the occasional vodka martini. Lately, I’ve developed a fondness for wine and the possibilities are endless with the flavors, as each type has a different spirit and some have great je ne se qua that can really enhance a night.

In these reviews, I am going to go over different wines that are affordable (because honestly that is the only type I can buy). And this will be a good outlet for my inner pretentious snob (we all have one you must admit).

I tend to like west coast and French wines the most, because a lot of them have personality but arenâ€™t too strong, in my opinion. The following are two relatively cheap wines that are among my favorites.

Dancing Bull Zinfandel (Red) 2007 $10

This red wine is perfect for any occasion and is deep and complex without being overly harsh or gritty. It has a bite to it, as it should having a bull as its symbol; but it isn’t a hard one-just a love bite. It is the smoothest red wine I have tasted at its price range. I like to drink it with Italian or Spanish food!

Chateau Ste Michelle Chardonnay (White) 2006 $12

I fell in love with the flavor of this wine after I ordered it at an Asian restaurant for my birthday. It is airy and flowery without being too light and has complex undertones that you can savor a while after sipping. It goes well with many different types of food, but I prefer to pair it with Asian, or French cuisine.

It was a good time I got a few photos nothing too special. The game was awesome since it was a 26-0 Packers victory.

A few weeks ago I was in Las Vegas partying my ass off. While I was out there I managed to get a ticket to see The Killers. I love The Killers! To me it was worth the price of admission to see them play to their home town crowd. Obviously, a majority of the crowd was female and screaming about how much they love Brandon Flowers. I did notice were all the women that kept putting up the devil horns (rock horns or metal horns whatever your flavor). This drives me nuts. Seriously the horns are for hard rock and heavier get a clue. Those are the only things that I approve. So please everyone get a clue and stop the overuse of the devil horns. Unless you are super hot in your picture. Such as a friend of mine as seen below.

Hey everyone,
Juicetime here. So as a loving and kick ass member of the single person society. I must bring up a few things from Juicetime’s book of bar life and awesomeness. I am going to get a little arrogant here. I know what you are all saying, “No fucking way!” Yeah I know shut up. As some of you out there reading know I have a lot of female friends. In that group of lady friends I will say 90% of them are all above average in the attractive column and a strong 20% are in the hot category (+/- 2% due to the the personal taste factor). I am pretty point blank and frank with everyone for the most part. The one thing I do a lot of is compliment or just flat out tell them how hot/beautiful they are. Yeah, you are probably calling “bullshit” but it is true. Ask Heather of my smoothness. It is something I picked up from my Grandfather and my father. Not a bad habit I might add. One thing I don’t understand how a small percentage of women are oblivious to three things 1.) Knowing they are hot or attractive 2.) Dudes checking them out 3.) Dudes hitting on them. This weekend a friend and I spent the day together at a major Wisconsin event. I will name her M for now. This friend of mine is smoking hot. I decided to put those three things to the test. If you ever have these issues with obliviously attractive woman just do these things. They are really simple and basic. Any idiot can do them.

Attacking item #1
M already knows I think she is scorching hot because I told her a long time ago. That means someone else has to tell her. Someone random. Funny enough though, we talked about that earlier in the day during our car ride. A two and a half hour drive. I mean you would have to talk about something don’t you? Later in the evening we were standing in line for beers and I decided to attack this thing head on. I turned to this guy in line behind us and asked him if I could ask him an odd question. I said, “What do you think of this girl?” Guy looked her up and down and said, “What kind of question is that? She is beautiful.” End of conversation.

As M and I were walking to our seats this group of guys was checking her out hardcore. Then as we kept walking there was another set of guys. This is a really easy one to knock down. I made sure to point it out every few dudes. Then M caught on to it.

This last one is a bit trickier because if they can’t figure it out now they probably never will. In all honesty I have no answer besides point it out.

The following are rules that are simple but strong and should be adhered to for men to be happy in a relationship. One thing to note: It seems that a common denominator in relationships is that any person does not want another to try to change them in a relationship (men or women), listening is key, and little loving gestures mean a lot. So men and women really aren’t that different in those respects–but these rules are generally more geared towards men:

1. Men are not that complicated and donâ€™t want to be overanalyzed.
2. Marriage/Relationships doesnâ€™t change a person; accept your husband/boyfriend the way he is.
3. Kind little gestures mean a lot.
4. Men donâ€™t read minds.
5. Men donâ€™t only want one thing.

My notes:
1) Women often overanalyze everything-it is biology and it also makes us better at multitasking-but also it can be neurotic-so it can maybe be quelled a little if we try to bring up an issue as logically and fairly as possible.
2) This goes for relationships-no matter how long you are in a relationship with someone–unless they are doing something unhealthy that they should change.
3) Both women and men like this-it is just human nature to like receiving gifts (also feels good to give them-on the flip side, you shouldn’t always be the one giving either-if that is the case-the issue should be talked about or if they don’t change they are not worth your love).
4) Often times, men aren’t trying to be inconsiderate if they are neglecting to do or say something–and often times, it is because they just feel that if you are with them you should understand they love you and they don’t have to keep reminding you all of the time.
Women try to read minds on the other hand it seems-again if there is an issue to discuss it is best to try to convey feelings in a logical and fair manner-sometimes hard for women to do as they are often times more emotionally expressive than men.
5) This is partly women’s and society’s fault for perpetuating this image that men are all pigs-they are not-they are just simple, like sex (biology again), but in their own way-though not as overanalytical as women about relationships, are complex emotionally as well. There are both men and women that are sex addicts, cheat regularly, etc. That notion that men mostly are the only ones that do it should not be adhered to any more.

I hope this was a little sensitively written and anyone reading this gained a little insight.

Lately, I’ve been reading Men Are From Mars and Women Are From Venus-the ubiquitous self-help classic, and it is actually not that bad. It points out the differences between men and women, and how to better communicate. I am always up for improving myself, relationships, and life in general.

Based on the obvious differences between men and women (more enhanced to me as I’m reading this book), I thought the following article I came across was particularly interesting:

Rules to keep your woman happy-written by a man, which are surprisingly pretty accurate (though I don’t know if the author carries them out in real life haha)!

Some of it is a little exaggerated (like outlined in 3). For instance, it is impossible for a man to NOT talk to another woman. I think they meant to emphasize more-flirting and carrying on in an overtly interested way-especially if your woman isn’t a flirtatious type herself. But in all, these are general good rules to adhere to (or at least behavior that should be faked somewhat) if you want to keep your woman from getting mad too often.

I just thought I would share for all of the men and women out there that run into these issues. I’ve learned it is normal for men to display some of these behaviors and normal for women to get overly upset about these behaviors–so it is good to bridge the gap if possible and understand each other to respect men and women are different-but we need to respect the differences and be sensitive about them (myself included).

1) Top thing that makes girls really itch for your throat is when you just don’t pay attention to her. Guys, you should know better. Women want to feel like their opinions and viewpoints matter to you. If they don’t get the feeling that they’re being heard when they talk for hours on end, they might stop talking to you altogether…and that’s NOT a good thing. A woman requires constant attention.
That can be a little tricky sometimes though…too much attention and she’ll think you’re an obsessed freak who collects strands of her hair and rolls them into little balls and puts them in a locked chest. Obviously this is an impression you want to avoid, so finding that balance is essential. Best advice is to just listen to her. Like, actually listen. She’ll TELL you what she wants. Usually.
2) Women have a term they use that as far as I can tell doesn’t really mean much. The term is “emotionally supportive,” and as best as I can cipher it basically refers to a man who can read women’s minds and know exactly what they want you to do or say at all the right times to make her feel loved. Basically they need a guy who listens well enough to know her as well as she knows herself.
There are a privileged few in the world of men who come by this talent naturally. I hate those scumbags, as I’m not one of them. If you’re like me, it requires a lot of attention and devotion to really pick up on all the little clues they give you as to exactly what they want. Really, if you can perfect item number 1, you can probably do okay with this one.
3) Oh my God, do NOT let a woman catch you cheating on her. And by that I don’t mean do it carefully, I mean don’t do it. Women may take slightly less offense to other women cheating on their men, but a man who cheats is sin itself and must be brutally destroyed by any means necessary. Most of us guys know it’s “bad” to cheat on a woman, but the majority of us may not know exactly what “cheating” is as a woman sees it.
Forget that other women exist. From now on, all women other than your girlfriend should be seen like you see your mother. She’s not a woman, right? She’s your mother. You do not TALK to other women. You do not LOOK at other women. You do not THINK ABOUT other women. You do not FANTASIZE about other women. All of these things are considered cheating and will get you slaughtered by a mob of angry girls.
4) For crying out loud, there is more trouble in the home than there has any right to be. When living with your girlfriend, simply accept the fact that you are GOING to help out around the house. You are fully capable of taking out the trash whether you want to or not, and if you know what’s good for you, you’ll just do what your girl says and hope she doesn’t make you sleep on the couch.

Well as a single guy living in a complete and total college town I must say there are a few things that really bother me. Although one of them occurred this past Saturday night after the 20 Dollar Love show over at The Annex. A friend of mine picked me up and we went over to State Street to get tore up. I was already half ways into a gin soaked coma by then. So meaningless to say, I was pretty much ready go to go with whatever life threw at me. Life decided to throw something at me that I hate. I went and put my drink down at a table and watched the baseball scores roll in. Hoping that the Brewers actually won a game (I know impossible right?). Then this little blonde ball of attitude tells me to buy her a shot for her birthday. This is one thing I friggin hate A LOT! In a town full of college chicks there is always a shitload of ladies who when celebrating their b-day doing this. Me being me, I have developed 8 sure fire ways to either piss them off and get out of buying them a shot. They are so simple it is stupid and I have tested them all.

1.) Tell her you don’t drink then order a coke.
2.) Order a drink for you then smile at her.
3.) Order shots for your friends while she is standing there watching you do it.
4.) You could tell her to piss off then again it is her birthday.
5.) Force her to talk to you for a long time so she forgets about the shot all together.
6.) Look at her, smirk and walk away.
7.) Tell her it is your birthday and she should buy you a shot.
8.) Ask her about her hot friend.

Well another one bites the dust as they say. The Uptown Bar has been a staple of the Minneapolis music scene for nearly a 100 years could quite possibly be closing its doors for good. After the Minneapolis Planning Commission approved the demolishing of the building for a new 3 story shopping area. Although there are talks about moving the bar to a new location. That has yet to be determined if it will even happen.

I am telling you all I hate the Summer. This is the only time of the year where my nuts stick to the side of my leg for about 23 hours out of the entire day. It is even worse when you are having sex and they slap around and get stuck on the chick or your leg. (Note to Self: I should ask Heather if she has ever had a pair of nuts get stuck to her chin or anywhere else from the heat.) Although, it is kind of funny. It just goes to show that it just sucks. Swamp nuts is by far the most annoying thing we as men endure during the Summer. Every guy out there knows what I am talking about. Either way the moral of the story is I think Summer and a sticky ball sack sucks!

12. Your favorite song to play live? “Lost Limbs Wont Grow Back” This is our
closer. This song builds perfectly to the level of insanity.

13. With the current smoking ban in place have you seen a difference in
crowd size? Alot of people go out and smoke during sets, this definitely hinders
the crowds. Go outside the next time you’re watching a band and see how many people
would otherwise be inside doing the same shit.

14. What was the one show you played that stuck out more than the rest and
why? The All The Way Rider CD Release show at the Triple Rock. We were pretty
unknown (2nd show I believe) at the time and were overwhelmed by how many people
were in the crowd and how much the got into us.

Step 1

Avoid having a moose knuckle by choosing underwear that fits snugly and comfortably, without squeezing your genitalia into party-balloon shapes. Knit briefs are an excellent choice, since they can nestle and support your package into a compact and uniform shape. Boxers, on the other hand, are notorious for creating moose knuckles, since they can squeeze your genitalia down the side of your leg or through the fly.

Step 2

Choose pants that are free and loose in the crotch area in order to avoid having a moose knuckle. Avoid wearing tight jeans from the disco era, which tend to accentuate and even celebrate the creation of a moose knuckle. A nice pair of dress slacks, with smooth flowing lines, may be the perfect solution for you.

Step 3

Apply some talcum powder to your crotch area before you put on your underwear and pants. Many moose knuckles are created when you are hot and sticky down there, causing your genitalia to twist and evolve into unusual formations. Talcum powder will help to keep everything loose and dry, and it will even help to prevent chafing.

Step 4

Ask your tailor to help you choose pants that will help you to avoid having a moose knuckle. Also, an experienced and knowledgeable tailor will know how to let out the crotch in your favorite pants, so that moose knuckles will become a thing of the past. Always remember to give your tailor a tip afterward.

Step 5

Stop yourself from daydreaming or fantasizing when out in public, which could lead to the creation of a moose knuckle, even if you are wearing pants that fit correctly. Think about baseball statistics, puppies and kittens, fishing, or business travel to get your mind off of having a moose knuckle.

#4Ouija Radio myspace bulletin update from Christy:
We just were given 52 DV cassette tapes of live shows and random stuff that our good friend at Rawkinpix has taped over the last 7 years. We are converting them batches at a time. It’s going to be a glimpse at all our different sides as a band.

You can find them by going to youtube and searching for Ouija Radio in the search box.

Also, we will be finishing our album in the next couple of months. We are hoping to do and EP vinyl and a couple of singles. The vinyl will come with MP3 downloads. We are also going to try to make a video for Red Eye Fly and for a couple of the tunes off the new record. Also, we plan on playing a show or two in the fall. I may add members to the band so don’t be too shocked when it happens. Oh and another thing, I plan on doing some rearrangements to songs and doing some really cool acoustic performances as well.

So we’ll be posting a show or two soon and we hope to see you there.

Apparently, people donâ€™t think bullying is that serious. Well, thatâ€™s always been the case, but when a grown woman bullies a fragile 13 year-old that has a history of depression, so she is pushed to commit suicide?â€¦donâ€™t you think there should be consequences?

Maybe Lori Drew should at least be ordered to go to anger management, maturity classes, and Jenny Craig. I am sick of sick people. She should have been thrown out of the courtroom physically, not the conviction thrown out.

I think bullying in school, the workplace, and anywhere else is horrible and too many people turn a blind eye, but there should be much more done and the justice system yet again fucked up. This is a humanity issueâ€”not just a â€œmyspace regulationsâ€ issue. What about the poor girl and the poor girl’s family? Where is the justice?

Oral Sex Cause of Throat Cancer Rise
Experts Say They Fear Epidemic of Throat Cancer Caused by HPV Infection

July 29, 2009 – Changing sexual practices have led to a dramatic rise in throat cancer in the United States over the past two decades, and experts say they fear an epidemic of the disease.

The comments were made Wednesday at a news conference held by the American Association for Cancer Research to discuss research into the role of the sexually transmitted human papilloma virus ( HPV) in head and neck cancer.

Increasing rates of HPV infection, spread through oral sex, is largely driving the rapid rise in oropharyngeal cancers, which include tumors of the throat, tonsils, and base of the tongue, said Scott Lippman, MD, who chairs the thoracic department at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Studies of oropharyngeal tumor tissue stored 20 years ago show that only around 20% are HPV positive, Lippman said. Today it is estimated that 60% of patients are infected with the virus.

â€œThe percentage of oropharyngeal cancers that are HPV positive is much higher now than it was 20 years ago,â€ he said. â€œThis is a real trend, and that is why there is concern of an epidemic given that fact that oropharyngeal cancer is increasing at an alarming rate.â€
Changing Face of Throat Cancer

Smoking and alcohol abuse were once considered the only major risk factors for these cancers, but this is no longer the case.

American Cancer Society Chief Medical Officer Otis Brawley, MD, said as many as half of the oropharyngeal cancers diagnosed today appear to be caused by HPV infection.

â€œChanging sexual practices over the last 20 years, especially as they relate to oral sex, are increasing the rate of head and neck cancers and may be increasing the rates of other cancers as well,â€ he said.

He added that there is some evidence that oral HPV infection is also a risk factor for a type of cancer of the esophagus.

â€œThe paradigm is changing,â€ Lippman said. â€œThe types of patients we are seeing now with oropharyngeal cancers are not the patients we have classically seen who were older, smokers, and have lots of other problems. These are young people, executives, a whole different population.â€
Oral Sex Not Safe Sex

The experts agreed that it is critical for the public to understand that oral sex doesnâ€™t equal safe sex.

The message was unofficially promoted in the early days of the HIV epidemic and it is still widely believed by many, especially teens.

Studies suggest that teens are often unaware of the risks associated with unprotected oral sex, including the transmission of HPV, chlamydia, and gonorrhea.

â€œThere is a huge public health message here,â€ Brawley said.

Well I can’t believe this shit. The top party school ranks just came out and #1 makes no sense.. I have partied with lots of people from Penn State and they can’t drink. Three beer wonders with the occasional superstar. They are no good at drinking games and their women out drink the guys. I mean who did they blow to get #1 on this list? Obviously I am a bit bias because I live in Madison, WI. Which known as a top party school every year, but really Penn State!?! Chooglin had their CD release two weekends ago at The Entry in Minneapolis, I am curious if anyone out there was able to make to the show? The last time they played at The Entry they were at max capacity and that was the end of the story. I want some details if you got them.

Anyways, I am heading back to my hometown this weekend for a friends wedding and my high school reunion. I can’t believe it has been ten years all I have to show for it is a beer gut and a hole in my chest. I’m still living at home and unemployed hahahahahaha.
I really hope everyone out there is spreading the word about us. I mean seriously we are trying to promote your local scene to the masses. Our staff really enjoys doing all of these things for your entertainment(which we assume is being done at work). Don’t forget we do have the live 24/7 that is full of your favorite artists. Soon enough we will have DJ on the feed along with the podcasts. There is so much shit planned for this site that we are going to be really busy until the Vikings win a Super Bowl(to which then the World implodes).

Other than that I am really pumped for the Vampire Hands and Sleeping in Aviary show at the High Noon Saloon here in Madison. If been looking forward to seeing VH for the first since Topher introduced them to me.

What’s up fellow minnesotans and everyone else. Â

This is Jake Pitts from Los Angeles. Â I used to live in Minnesota a while back and am good friends with Juice. Â Im gonna be posting shit on what’s happening out here in Cali.

I used to play lead guitar in The Perfect Victim, some of you may have heard of us. Â That band kinda fell apart after a long journey working with major producers, management, and record labels. Â The band went on hiatus for a while and decided to continue on as a 4 piece band with a new singer, and new bassist. Â Nothing is happening with them and they are trying to play all the same old music. Â

I on the other hand have been very busy over the last year and have been writing a ton of music and recording and crafting something new. Â I kept it in hiding for a long time, but its now out and kicking ass! Â I have put together my new band 80 Proof Riot, and have a myspace up, but its bare right now as we have someone doing all the graphics for the page, which should be up soon. Â Right now we have 3 songs up. Â Just to let you all know, the recordings are all done by me, and the vocals were done by my buddy/singer Jack Sin at his house on a shitty mic, and an mbox 2. Â But check it out, it doesn’t really sound too bad! Â This band is going to kick ass. Â Im playing Lead guitar and write all the music. Jinx who was in Amen is on guitar as well. Â We have Chris Mora on drums, you probably know him for his other band Silent Civilian, Jack Sin is singing, he played guitar in Die Trying. Â We also have a ripping bass player GK, I just met him last night, so I don’t know a whole lot about him yet, but he’s a cool guy. Â Anyway, if any of that sparks anyones interest, check it out. Â The music is heavy as fuck, but catchy too, and different. Â None of that bullshit wanna be metal. Â If you like insain drums, shredding guitars, and mean vocals, check it out! Dear Bombay and Hendricks,
Have you ever had a moment when you are out with some friends having a good time and then some chicks ass catches your eye and you do the “holy shit” look? Well, this guy did this past Friday night. At the time I swore she had on quite possibly the tightest and littlest shorts. It was awesome! This is a reason I love living in a college town. So many women and so many drinks. Naturally, I walked up and proceeded to tell her that her ass was awesome and needed to be photographed because I needed to, “remember a piece of art like that”. Her reply was a resounding, “Yes, it does.” So they are on my phone now. Looking back this mean I am still awesome and so my legacy continues to grow. I know that I’ve had better and have seen much worse. Not to say she wasn’t still worthy of good times because she was pretty damn cute. She just happened to be standing next to her boyfriend when I was talking to her. Oh the things your encouragement lets me get away with. Believe me this is pretty much the PG version of some of the things women have let me taken pictures of. Classy is how I am describing it. In the end I just wanted to say, Thank You Bombay and Hendricks for making my nights so much better!

Review: The Kickback “A New History”

As a former resident, I can say with confidence that southeast South Dakota can often be an incredibly boring and desolate place. That said, this Sioux Falls ex-patriot was most delighted to hear that current SoDak-resident indie rockers The Kickback are building their own fun-filled oasis for all who care to enjoy it with them.

“A New History” begins with a background pulse of a slowly accelerating train. Thick vibrato guitars and emotive vocal patterns join to emit a slow longing not unlike that of one found trapped in a barren landscape. Vocalist Billy Yost apologetically croons he’ll “only say goodbye” and wastes no time doing it. Within a minute and 20 seconds the listener finds themselves in the throws of a roller coaster who’s destination is only the ride of one’s life.

The following five tracks of this EP brought a wealth of notes to my scratch pad: “drums pushing an anxious attention”, “intuitive dynamics”, and “actually intelligent smart-pop harmonies” are a few of the most notable ones. The guitars often channel high-energy acts like The Hives, The Vines and the White Stripes with regard to accessibility, all the while paying tribute to the more complex syncopations of prog-rockers past. To put it a different way, the EP’s stand out track “We All We Know” takes a new twist on that first chord progression every guitarist learns during their third week of lessons and makes it seem downright innovative. Also, it’s important to note that not often can a band announce “We always say we’ve got it all” and not be considered liars because of it.

The Crackup, their most ambitious of the record, was the only track that lent negative notes to the pad. While they continue to bring a danceability infectious even to the lowest looking of shoegazers, the rhythms miss a beat during the chorus when all instruments fall into a play anything free-for-all. It’s as if the song was composed as a mish-mash of licks and riffs linked only by the click-track. Points are most certainly awarded for their extension of abilities, yet for future explorations of this nature, some additional grease may be needed for the wheels.

Still, The Kickback steps back on track with Crawl, Crawl and Game Theory, the latter of which found me frantically scribbling the following: “Reminiscent of a high-speed trek west on I-90 through flat grassland with outstretched airplane hands stopping for a brief break at the Corn Palace which reminds one they should have never stopped there in the first place… ends with a grand view of Black Hills and Badlands” and also “It’s because of songs like this one that Debbie Gibson danced the way she did”.

At this point, even I’ve forgotten what those last two notes actually mean. Yet, I’m about to listen to “A New History” a second time in order to find out. I highly recommend the reader do the same.

4.Musical influences/inspirations: Being I studied music from 6th grade through college, it would be mostly the musicians I met along with way from marching band, symphonic band, jazz bands and of course the many bands Trend 86 shared the stage with in over 8 years and 150+ shows.
5.What separates you from the rest of music out there? Well, interestingly enough we are doing 2 reunion shows this August. 1 in Minneapolis and 1 in Sioux Falls. I think that our music transformed more than most bands that I am familiar with over the 8 years. We went from being a 9 piece rock band with 3 vocalists and 3 horn players to a straight up 5-piece rock band. I think that in general we were consistently change our sound without changing our identity as a band. I think our identity was always to pretty much tear a stage into shreds by the end of the set.
6.Why should some one come to one of your shows or buy your disc? Until our last CD, “Adobe”, that we recorded with Steve Albini in Chicago I don’t think I was too confident sending somebody home with the disc because our essence was in the live show. It was always was and hopefully we will always be remembered that way. “Adobe”, was really the first CD that captured a really raw, eary sound which scared some of our listeners away…, which I’m totally fine with.
7.Favorite venues to play in? I think the outdoor festivals we played will always be the most memorable for us.
8.If you could play a show with anyone artist or group who would it be and why? God, me personally…, I would have to say the Deftones because they did so much for me musically and personally. I also like the idea of opening at the next Doomtree Blowout. I’m sure the other guys would all have vastly different answers.
9.Have you heard of Sianetradio.com before?…..are you listening now? I have and no I am not. Thank you for the reminder.
10. If you could talk to anyone artists in music that is dead or alive who would it be and why? All of the 27 club.
11. Who would win in a fight Henry Rollins or Glenn Danzig? Rollins would beat his ass hard.
12. What is the easiest way people can check out your band? right now August 13th at the Uptown Bar and Grill with All the Way Rider and August 15th at Nutty’s North in Sioux Falls with These Modern Socks.
13. Your favorite song to play live? “Landing Point” off of Adobe or “She Got” off of our 2 song EP.
14. With the current smoking ban in place have you seen a difference in crowd size? I love the smoking ban and I smoke once in a while.
15.What was the one show you played that stuck out more than the rest and why? Playing in front of 2,500 fans at a festival called “Bash in the Grass” in South Dakota. South Dakota is our home and they have always showed immense appreciation for what we did and vice versa.
16. Any other local artists that we should listen to because you said so? Man, I’m so out of it I can’t really answer that and feel entirely good about it. I guess Dessa from Doomtree is somebody who I really appreciate as an artist for her innovation and writing.
17.Anything you want to plug at our expense? Stop watching the news.

This is my first post on Sianet radio and I am happy to support Juicetime and everyone associated with the radio station. Â It is a fun show and I’ve had the privilege to meet Justin and most of his friends and party with some. Â He and I have talked about how different we are but it works for our friendship (we’ve known each other for several years now) because we can let each other in on lives we normally wouldn’t get a window into. Â So, hopefully, I can share a bit of my world with people that might not otherwise look into it. Â He asked me to share some of my poetry and write a blog and be as truthful and brash as I want. Â I might break out the brashness every now and then but not sure-not really my personality-but I do have opinions so I can share them from time to time if they apply. Had a great time over at Jake, Wendy and Folkerts house. We played ladderball, beanbags, and of course kickball. An ice cream truck went by and someone stopped it. As you can see, Lance and Glen were happy they did. There was a little bit of drinking. Lexi brought shot glasses MADE OF ICE! And as everyone knows the colder the Jag, the better the Jag. Yum! During kickball, I REALLY wanted to be safe at second……well partly because the Jag was there and partly because I like winning and I slid in shorts. Those little rocks cut like tiny knives! I now have this annoying throb on my leg. Oh well, I got a shot anyway. The fireworks were fun. Even though the people around us were annoyed, we had many laughs from Lance and Glen’s obscure metal references. All in all a great time and no hangover! Yea me!

Sad news to report from over the weekend: St. Paul singer-songwriter Jeff Hanson was found dead in his apartment on Friday. He was 31. The Star Tribune reports that he “likely died from a fall or other accident at the concrete-floored apartment, which he had just moved into days earlier.”

Hanson started rocking very young, as the frontman for Milwaukee-area teen-emo kids M.I.J., one of many bands inspired by the success of The Promise Ring. But Hanson really found his voice on his own, clearly inspired by Elliott Smithâ€”another rocker who decided to follow a quieter muse. Hanson sent a tape of demos to Kill Rock Stars, which released three albums, including last year’s Madam Owl.

Two nights of THE SKULLCRANES? I mean, really? Yup.

They’re releasing their first CD with Crustacean Records out of Madison and I for one, hope to be sober enough to actually make to their set. Now, I’d be SUPER excited for the listening party if it weren’t for the fact I’ve been listening to this record just about every Tuesday and Thursday for the past month after band practice while playing 301 with Ponyboy. (I let him win sometimes. It makes him feel good)

So, I HAVE heard the album and approve. Officially, the suck factor is very low. Especially from a bunch of fuck-0ffs like these guys. There are suspicions that they didn’t even write the material. It’s that good. Hey who of us can’t relate to being down to our last 5 bucks, or making fun of Maplewood rockers? Bumming cigs and bitchin’ cars is what they’re all about. Beer and toothpaste………that’s all I’s gotsta say.

Welcome all of my faithful followers and my lovable stalkers. I am the first person to dive into the blogs section of this website and hopefully those other douche bags will follow suit. I really have nothing to say at the moment besides these few things.

-Yes, I moved back to Madison and the reason for that is personal. (Tophers ass stinks up the studio too much)

-I will continue on doing a few call in sessions for The Clubhouse Show. (Anything I can to to rip on Mae)

-OUR SHOWS ARE NOT WORK FRIENDLY SO DON’T EMAIL ME ABOUT IT. Why the hell do you think they would be?

-I am knocking off two bands from my must see list this summer. Huey Lewis and the News and Better Than Ezra. Say what you want but I dig them.

-May 23rd is the Sianetradio.com Brewers/Twins tailgate throw down. Brewers @ Twins 6:05 pitch. The Sianetradio.com party people will be sitting dead center field cheering on their prospective teams. Look for a sianetradio.com plug on the big screen as well. Pictures to follow.

-There is a huge rumor flying around town here….well our sianetradio.com studio and junk that there will be a reunion show of 3 of the most entertaining rock bands of the past. If I said I wasn’t the instigator of one of them getting back together I would be lying. Slighted, B!, and Lingo one night only….rumor has it.

-Last week Thursday was the Orange Blank CD release show. I was gone and moved already so I didn’t attend but it didn’t stop a shitload of people from calling and texting me all night telling me how awesome it was. Believe me I am sure it was I have seen Orange Blank probably more than anyone else. I do encourage everyone to go and buy a copy of the disc at one of their shows or on Itunes or amazon.com I have had it for a while now and it kicks ass. Plus the inside has a pretty damn sexy mural of pictures.

-My folks got me something pretty damn sweet. Since I am a huge fan of the TV show M*A*S*H* they got me an autographed picture of Corp. Max Klinger (Jamie Farr) I’ll post a picture up soon. It is hilarious.

OK so that is all I have to say for now hopefully this wasn’t too boring or holding a high suck factor for ya. Orange Blank CD Release

This Thursday (May 7th, 2009) Orange Blank will be at the Uptown Bar to release the album “1973″. The Invincible Kids, Winter Gloves, Landspeeder and Iced Ink will be “tearin’ the roof off” of the place as well. (full show details at bottom)

1973 was recorded in two days at Signature Tone Studios in May of 2008. Then bassist Mike Johnson (The Skullcranes) had planned to move out of the state, so the band decided to get the songs recorded quickly. The first day consisted of tracking all of the music live in studio. There is ONE overdub and that was for some feedback on the song 10211. Most songs were one takes and “Last Time” was only performed live once before it was recorded. The second day was vocals that led into the wee hours of the morning.
